If someone shared with you she was pregnant and hadn't ruled out having an abortion, would you know how to respond? QUÉ HACER SI UNA AMIGA PIENSA EN ABORTAR Más mujeres y niñas consideran el aborto de lo que pensamos. Familiares y amigas, nuestras niñeras, compañeras de equipo o de trabajo, casadas o solteras. Incluso si alguien se identifica como pro vida, la impresión de un embarazo inesperado, la devastación de un diagnóstico prenatal adverso, la vergüenza, presiones o temores pueden influir en que considere el aborto. Si una persona compartiera contigo que está embarazada y no ha descartado tener un aborto, ¿sabrías responder? La respuesta está en el viejo adagio: Tenemos dos oídos y una boca, y debemos usarlos en esa proporción. Siga hacia abajo para ver otros formatos de este artículo. El amor es comprensivo, el amor es servicial" (1 Cor 13,1.4). Cuando una mujer enfrenta un embarazo difícil, la reacción de la primera persona a la que se lo dice suele influir en su toma de decisiones. ¿Cómo respondemos a nuestra amiga de una manera amorosa que exprese la afirmación de la vida para ella y su bebé? Considere los cuatro pasos del enfoque L.O.V.E. Approach™*: Listen and Learn (Escuchar y conocer), Open Options (Opciones abiertas), Vision and Value (Visión y valor) y Extend and Empower (Extender y empoderar). L. Listen and Learn (Escuchar y conocer) Prioriza escuchar en vez de hablar. No tienes que preocuparte por si dices algo "incorrecto", y no tienes todas las respuestas. Primero escucha la historia de tu amiga. Pregúntale qué siente, piensa, valora, cree y desea. No la interrumpas, excepto para pedirle que amplíe, si procede. Por ejemplo: ¿Cómo te sentiste cuando te enteraste? ¿Te sentiste abandonada con lo que él dijo? ¿Cómo te sientes y qué piensas ahora? ¿Qué crees que dirán o harán tus padres? ¿Qué valor tiene eso para ti? ¿Qué relación tiene con tu fe religiosa? ¿Qué tan importante es eso para ti? En el fondo de tu corazón, ¿qué es lo que realmente quieres hacer? Haz preguntas abiertas y declaraciones como "Cuéntame más..." Interpreta y confirma lo que crees que has entendido: "¿Quieres decir..." Presta mucha atención a su lenguaje corporal. Gestos de incomodidad o falta de contacto visual pueden indicar que lo que ella dice no refleja sus sentimientos, valores o deseos más íntimos. Escucha procurando intuir las necesidades de tu amiga para poder después encontrar maneras útiles de abordarlas. Procura detectar sus fortalezas y recursos y haz que ella los capte también, aumentando así su confianza y valor. O. Open Options (Opciones abiertas) Tras compartir la historia completa de tu amiga, de manera amorosa y delicada, es el momento de informarle sobre la realidad del aborto o las heridas que causa, sobre tener un bebé, la adopción, el matrimonio, y cómo aplicar tales cosas en su situación. Lo más útil es mantener el eje de atención en ella, en su persona. Al mismo tiempo, evita comparar la adopción con el aborto. La investigación indica que una mujer con un embarazo inesperado e indeseado a menudo ve todos los posibles resultados de su embarazo negativamente: quedarse con su hijo, el aborto y la adopción (que se considera el peor de los tres "males"). La investigación también "sugiere que al comparar la adopción y el aborto la adopción es casi siempre la perdedora".[1] Es mejor, primero, alentarla a llevar su bebé a término. V. Vision and Value (Visión y valor) Despierta en ella una visión de una vida más sana (visión que pudo no haber tenido nunca, o pudiera estar ensombrecida). Ayúdala a verse de manera diferente, como una creación especial, digna de amor, hecha a la imagen de Dios; como mujer, su maternidad es un don. Jesús la ama e incluso murió por ella. Anímala. Ayúdala a establecer y perseguir objetivos más allá del parto, a ver la vida más allá de su embarazo. Reafírmale que siempre hay esperanza y que no está sola. May expectant mothers choosing adoption receive grace and support in embracing this loving option. DÍA 5 20 de enero ENGLISH INTERCESIÓN Que cada madre embarazada que elige la adopción reciba gracia y apoyo al asumir esta opción de amor. ORACIONES Padre nuestro, 3 Ave Marías, Gloria REFLEXIÓN Las madres que dan a sus hijos en adopción enfrentan a menudo muchos desafíos en el camino. This "back to basics" approach for addressing abortion summarizes key points. El aborto y la Ley El fallo de la Corte Suprema en el caso Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health Organization acabó el régimen nacional, de casi cincuenta-años, del aborto a solicitud que se inició con la decisión Roe vs. Wade en 1973. La Corte Suprema con Dobbs concluyó que no hay nada en el texto de la Constitución, en la historia, en la tradición jurídica de EE. UU. ni en los precedentes de la Corte que justifiquen la posición extrema de Roe . Con Dobbs , la Corte Suprema remitió la cuestión del aborto a la decisión de los representantes electos del pueblo en el ámbito federal y estatal. Tomará tiempo para que la decisión Dobbs se complete y habrá muchas variaciones en cómo los estados tratarán el aborto. Mientras tanto, el aborto es legal en más estados en que no lo es, y se necesita más trabajo en los meses y años venideros. Efectos del aborto El aborto resulta en la muerte de un niño. [2] Las relaciones familiares pueden sufrir a medida que el padre del niño abortado, los abuelos u otros familiares experimentan su propia culpa, dolor o pérdida. Incluso si la madre mantiene en secreto su aborto, los familiares pueden angustiarse por los cambios en el comportamiento y la salud mental o emocional de la madre. [3] Lo que la Iglesia enseña La Iglesia siempre ha enseñado que toda vida humana es preciosa y digna de protección. Todo aborto intencional es gravemente malicioso. [4] En abril de 2018, el papa Francisco escribió: "La defensa del inocente que no ha nacido… debe ser clara, firme y apasionada, porque allí está en juego la dignidad de la vida humana, siempre sagrada, y lo exige el amor a cada persona más allá de su desarrollo". [5] La Iglesia no aborda las difíciles decisiones sobre el embarazo con una falsa mentalidad de "o el uno o el otro", enfrentando a la madre con el niño. Por ejemplo, un bebé concebido por violación no es un agresor que merezca la muerte por aborto. Es inocente, como su madre. Ambas merecen atención y apoyo compasivos, no más violencia. El aborto no trae sanación o paz, pero ambas se pueden encontrar en la valiente decisión de dar a luz al bebé. Hoy, muchos bebés con diagnóstico prenatal de discapacidad son abortados. Los asustados padres, inseguros de su capacidad de cuidar de un niño así, pueden confiar en que Dios les dio a ellos este hijo por una razón. Padres que crían a niños con discapacidades a menudo escriben sobre las alegrías inesperadas y el efecto transformador en sus familias. [6] Incluso cuando las discapacidades son tan severas que es probable que el bebé muera antes o poco después del nacimiento, "muchos padres que llevaron sus embarazos a término dicen que proteger a su hijo y honrar su vida natural, sin importar cuán breve sea, fue profundamente sanador". [7] En muy raras ocasiones, continuar un embarazo puede poner en riesgo la vida de la madre, por ejemplo, debido a un embarazo tubárico o un cáncer uterino agresivo. Es moralmente lícito eliminar la amenaza para la vida de la madre extrayendo el útero canceroso o la trompa de Falopio donde se implantó el niño, aunque sea previsible que el niño muera como resultado indirecto e involuntario de dicha cirugía. Pero el aborto —el quitar directa e intencionalmente la vida a un niño— nunca es moralmente permisible. ¿Qué debemos hacer? ¡Amarlos a ambos! Apoye a las mujeres que necesitan ayuda durante y después de embarazos difíciles a través del trabajo de su oficina diocesana de Respetemos la Vida y los centros locales de cuidado del embarazo. Respect Life resources for use in Catholic education. LEADERS' TOOLKIT Catholic Education This leaders' toolkit is provided to help Catholic educators build a culture of life in their classrooms throughout the year, whenever Respect Life themes best fit into their curricula. The provided resources, ideas, and activities are only suggestions. We encourage teachers to adapt them as necessary to an age-appropriate level. Feel free to get creative as you build "an authentic civilization of truth and love" (Evangelium vitae , 6) in your classroom! ACTION GUIDES (Available in English and Spanish) Check out our Action Guides for additional ideas and step-by-step instructions for highlighting Respect Life themes year-round! POSTER & PRAYER CARD Consider hanging the Respect Life poster in your classroom or school and use it to introduce the Church's teaching on the sanctity of human life and our call as Catholics to welcome, protect, and defend it. Incorporate the A Prayer for Life to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in your daily classroom prayers and send a copy home with students to pray with their families. ORDER VIEW & DOWNLOAD (Available in English and Spanish) SAMPLE ACTIVITY This activity invites students to create their own Respect Life poster to help them reflect on Respect Life themes. Each student receives a poster template with an empty bulletin board. They are then instructed to fill the bulletin board with images and/or words that represent respect for life from the beginning of life to its end. For younger students, they can be asked to color, draw pictures, or write about what reminds them of God’s presence in every season of life. Older students can be asked to bring in items and photos that represent Respect Life themes and attach them to their bulletin board. Or, bring in an old stack of magazines and have students cut out words and photos. They can also write their own prayer intentions on their bulletin board. *This activity can also be completed as a group. IMAGE GALLERY (Available in English and Spanish) REFLECTION This short reflection unpacks the 2024-2025 Respect Life Eucharistic theme, highlighting how Catholics are called to be lights in the darkness. The reflection could be read aloud as a class to open a larger discussion. Or, it could also be used as a writing prompt. For example, students could be asked to reflect on how they can bring Jesus' light to others, focusing on ways to build a culture that welcomes, protects, and defends human life. The provided intercessions are appropriate for use during Mass in the Prayer of the Faithful. Consider using them during a Respect Life Mass with your school community. If you open your classes in prayer, incorporate one or more of the intercessions, and invite students to add their own prayer intentions related to the sanctity of human life. Perhaps you could send home weekly or monthly prayer intentions for families to pray for at home. Select one of the following intercessions and encourage students to pray for the intention with their parents. Sunday of Divine Mercy Sunday of Divine Mercy | April Each year, on the Second Sunday of Easter, the Church celebrates the Sunday of Divine Mercy. It provides an important opportunity to share Christ’s message of mercy, especially with those who have been wounded by abortion. By the age of 45, as many as 1 in 3 women have had an abortion, and a similar number of men and family members have been involved. Many inaccurately feel that abortion is “the unforgivable sin.” They need to hear that God forgives every sin of a repentant heart, even the sin of abortion. (Although, ideas for separate events are also included). Who are the action guides for? While the action guides have been developed primarily with parishes in mind, they also offer ideas for adaptation for use in schools, ministries, and even by families at home. These action guides can be used by diocesan, parish, school, and ministry staff and volunteers, as well as anyone who desires to build a culture of life in their particular faith community. How do I use these action guides? The action guides are intended to help you integrate respect for human life into your respective work and/or ministries.
