Camina con madres necesitadas: Vive el Evangelio de la Vida El 25 de marzo de 2020, la solemnidad de la Anunciación del Señor, la Iglesia celebró el 25o aniversario de la encíclica papal Evangelium vitae (El Evangelio de la Vida ). Este profético documento, escrito por un gran santo de nuestro tiempo, el papa Juan Pablo II, reafirmó la enseñanza constante de la Iglesia sobre el valor e inviolabilidad de cada vida humana. ​ En esta encíclica, el Santo Padre explica que El Evangelio de la Vida es el centro del mensaje salvífico de Jesús al mundo. Nos motivó así: ​ Debemos preguntarnos, con gran lucidez y valentía, qué cultura de la vida se difunde hoy entre los cristianos, las familias, los grupos y las comunidades de nuestras diócesis. Con la misma claridad y decisión, debemos determinar qué pasos hemos de dar para servir a la vida según la plenitud de su verdad.[5] ​ En honor al 25o aniversario de Evangelium vitae y en respuesta al llamado del papa Juan Pablo II, el Comité de Actividades Pro-Vida de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de los Estados Unidos lanzó una iniciativa nacional titulada: Camina con madres necesitadas . Las parroquias, por medio del apoyo de sus obispos y párrocos, están invitadas a unirse a esta iniciativa para incrementar el acercamiento y el apoyo de la Iglesia a las mujeres que tienen embarazos difíciles o inesperados. Este año especial de aniversario le ha concedido a la Iglesia la oportunidad de evaluar, expandir y dar a conocer de mejor manera los recursos existentes para madres embarazadas y familias necesitadas. ​ En nuestras parroquias y vecindarios hay madres embarazadas y madres que crían hijos que están necesitadas, pero en su desesperación están acudiendo a otros lugares para pedir ayuda. Sabemos que las dificultades pueden ser inmensas para las mujeres con embarazos inoportunos, especialmente las mujeres que están en la pobreza, y las que más necesitan ayudan pueden no conocer los recursos a su alcance. Las mujeres que enfrentan embarazos difíciles deberían ver la Iglesia como un lugar donde encontrar ayuda, particularmente con su infinidad de servicios sociales y organizaciones dedicadas a satisfacer las necesidades de las personas en crisis. ​ Por medio de Camina con madres necesitadas se le pide a la Iglesia que responda al llamado del papa Juan Pablo II y evalúe objetivamente la asistencia pastoral y práctica que en la actualidad brinda a madres embarazadas y a familias necesitadas y su eficacia en dar a conocer tal ayuda. ​ El papa Juan Pablo II escribió que: “el agradecimiento y la alegría por la dignidad inconmensurable del hombre nos mueve a hacer a todos partícipes de este mensaje [El Evangelio de la vida]”.[6] ​ Dijo que tenemos que llevar este mensaje “al corazón de cada hombre y mujer e introducirlo en lo más recóndito de toda la sociedad”.[7] Al acercarnos para brindar atención apoyo amoroso a las embarazadas y a sus hijos, damos testimonio de la santidad de toda persona humana, en cada etapa y en cada circunstancia. ​ Evangelium vitae pone énfasis en que “el servicio de la caridad a la vida debe ser profundamente unitario: no se pueden tolerar unilateralismos y discriminaciones, porque la vida humana es sagrada e inviolable... se trata de ‘hacerse cargo’ de toda la vida y de la vida de todos”.[8] El papa Juan Pablo II resalta la increíble historia de servicio y caridad que la Iglesia ha brindado durante siglos a los abandonados y olvidados por la sociedad. Insta a que “cada comunidad cristiana, con nuevo sentido de responsabilidad, debe continuar escribiendo a través de una acción pastoral y social múltiple”.[9] ​ Se nos llama a respetar y amar a cada ser humano como a nosotros mismos. Constituye nuestra responsabilidad cuidar y proteger la vida humana, en especial la vida de los más vulnerables entre nosotros. Evangelium vitae nos enseña que “el deber de acoger y servir la vida incumbe a todos y ha de manifestarse principalmente con la vida que se encuentra en condiciones de mayor debilidad”.[10] ​ El papa Juan Pablo II escribió: “El Evangelio del amor de Dios al hombre, el Evangelio de la dignidad de la persona y el Evangelio de la vida son un único e indivisible Evangelio”.[11] El Evangelio de Jesús es el Evangelio de la Vida, y amar a Jesús es amar y servir la vida. Como seguidores de Cristo, que nos esforcemos por responder continuamente a las necesidades de los pobres y vulnerables que Dios nos ha confiado. ​ Como parte de Camina con madres necesitadas, el Comité de Actividades Pro-Vida de la USCCB ofrecerá recursos educativos, pastorales y orientados a la acción para que las parroquias puedan ir a las periferias y llevar esperanza y ayuda a las mujeres necesitadas. Naumann Se nos pide a los católicos considerar muchas cuestiones importantes al acercarnos a las urnas Los obispos estadounidenses reafirmaron que “la amenaza del aborto sigue siendo nuestra máxima prioridad, porque ataca directamente a la vida misma, porque tiene lugar dentro del santuario de la familia y por la cantidad de vidas destruidas”.[1] Aunque nos advirtieron no “descartar o ignorar otras graves amenazas para la vida y la dignidad humanas, como el racismo, la crisis ambiental, la pobreza y la pena de muerte”, dieron prioridad a sostener y defender el derecho más fundamental de nuestros hermanos y hermanas: la vida. El aborto es un mal intrínseco, lo cual significa que nunca está permitido ni tiene justificativo moral, independientemente de las circunstancias o intenciones individuales. Las consecuencias personales y sociales de los ataques contra la vida humana, ya sea en sus inicios o en su final, son las más graves porque con mayor frecuencia se producen “precisamente dentro y por obra de la familia, que constitutivamente está llamada a ser, sin embargo, ‘santuario de la vida’”.[2] Este es el lugar donde una persona debe ser más amada, atesorada y protegida. Los católicos están llamados a defender la vida humana donde sea que esté amenazada y salir a la defensa de la dignidad humana siempre que sea vulnerada. La enorme cantidad de vidas humanas que el aborto destruyó constituye un factor que aumenta su importancia. Comenzando en 1973 con Roe vs. Wade y en los casi 50 años después de Roe durante los cuales la Corte Suprema prohibió las leyes estatales contra el aborto, casi 64 millones de niños han encontrado la muerte, y un incontable número de mujeres y hombre sufren por las consecuencias. [3] ​ Incluso con la anulación de Roe vs. Wade en junio de 2022, una decisión que regresos la cuestión del aborto al electorado, muchos estados continúan sin reconocer que los niños en el vientre materno son personas que merecen protección jurídica. Las leyes federales en nuestro país no protegen la vida de niños no nacidos, y muchos dirigentes políticos en el ámbito estatal y federal trabajan activamente para aumentar acceso al aborto. San José: fiel protector de Madre e Hijo El niño Jesús “viene al mundo asumiendo una condición de gran debilidad. Necesita de José para ser defendido, protegido, cuidado, criado” (PC 5). El humilde y a veces oculto carpintero de Nazaret acompañó a María en su embarazo, ayudó en el nacimiento del Mesías en un establo, presentó a Jesús en el Templo, huyó con su familia lejos de su patria para protegerlos, y cariñosamente crio a Jesús como su propio hijo en los años siguientes. Mientras que el ángel del Señor se le apareció a María para anunciarle que daría a luz al Salvador del mundo, se le reveló a José en una serie de sueños cómo se llevarían a cabo los planes de Dios. En esta entrega mutua, que lo abarca todo, incluso su potencial para la procreación, marido y mujer están unidos como uno solo. Estos dos aspectos de la sexualidad, la unitiva y la procreativa, se entrelazan y deben ser inseparables. Suprimir la posibilidad de concepción (es decir, uso de anticonceptivos) y crear vida fuera del acto conyugal (es decir, uso de algunas tecnologías reproductivas) obran contra el plan de Dios para el amor matrimonial y contra el don de la vida. El Papa Francisco explica que "el hijo reclama nacer de ese amor" expresado entre marido y mujer en la relación sexual, "y no de cualquier manera, ya que él 'no es un derecho sino un don'".[4] *(Ver explicación más completa en la lista de recursos.) Conozcan la diferencia entre intervenciones éticas y no éticas:* Aplicar la enseñanza de la Iglesia significa que los procedimientos que introducen una tercera parte (como gestantes subrogadas o donantes de esperma u óvulos) no son moralmente aceptables. Además, sustituir la relación sexual con una acción de laboratorio, como inseminación artificial o fertilización in vitro (FIV), también es moralmente inaceptable. Sin embargo, los tratamientos que ayudan a facilitar la concepción a través del acto conyugal son moralmente éticos. *(Ver explicación más completa en la lista de recursos.) Sean conscientes de "tratamientos" que destruyen vida: Algunos procedimientos son problemáticos por múltiples razones. Por ejemplo, además de su carácter no ético, la FIV suele implicar la trágica pérdida de vidas humanas. Con frecuencia se descartan —o congelan— niños en la etapa embrionaria sin siquiera ser implantados en el útero materno. Y si se implantan varios, los médicos pueden sugerir una "reducción fetal": matar uno o más para aumentar las posibilidades de supervivencia del niño más fuerte en el útero. Aunque finalmente podría nacer un bebé, sus pequeños hermanos pueden terminar destruidos.[5] Hagan un plan: ¿Saben que hay opciones médicas coherentes con la enseñanza de la Iglesia que tienen tasas estadísticamente significativas más altas de lograr el embarazo que la FIV?[6] Infórmense sobre estas prácticas de conocimiento de la fertilidad, y otros tratamientos que también respetan su matrimonio y los hijos que puedan concebir. Si han buscado traer un hijo a su familia por medios que no concuerdan con el plan de Dios para la vida y el amor conyugal, tengan esperanza. El Señor nos acoge en el Sacramento de la Reconciliación, en el que podemos recibir la misericordia y el perdón amorosos que todos necesitamos. Con la oración y una conciencia informada, trabajen juntos como pareja para crear un plan que considere el deseo de tener hijos junto con los principios morales, sus medios económicos, las realidades médicas y su bienestar general (como individuos y como pareja). Localicen un especialista o médico que respete su plan y tenga formación en métodos de asistencia que concuerden con la enseñanza de la Iglesia. Mantengan un matrimonio sano: Manejar las incertidumbres de la infertilidad es un desafío incluso para los matrimonios más sólidos. Una vez abocados al tratamiento, podrían centrarse más en el proceso que el uno en el otro. La comunicación y la toma mutua de decisiones son vitales. Permanecer íntimamente conectados puede ayudar a sobrellevar los cambios de estilo de vida, el reordenamiento de las prioridades, la incomodidad física, la interrupción de la carrera y las dificultades con personas insensibles. Aférrense a la verdad constante del amor de Dios por ustedes. Dirigiéndose a las parejas que no pueden tener hijos, san Juan Pablo II afirmó, "ustedes no son menos amados por Dios; su amor recíproco es completo y fructífero cuando está abierto a los demás"[7] y sus necesidades. En los momentos de sufrimiento, señala el Papa Francisco, "sentimos una gran necesidad de que alguien esté cerca y sienta compasión de nosotros". Because of this, some members of the clergy are hesitant to preach about Respect Life topics, particularly abortion. ​ However, the merciful words of a priest or deacon can be a pivotal moment in the healing process. Many inaccurately believe that abortion is “the unforgivable sin.” They may be longing to hear that God desires to forgive every sin of those who are sorry, even the sin of abortion. VIEW & DOWNLOAD REFLECTION This short reflection unpacks the theme of radical solidarity, highlighting how Catholics are called to put their love for others into action. You can use the reflection to help inspire a homily highlighting Respect Life topics at any time of year. ​The reflection could also be used as the basis for a talk for parishioners or a weekly "Pastor's Corner" in the bulletin.
